It's Sea Turtle Season in Destin

15822 It is officially summer! We're excited to welcome guests arriving for a fun and relaxing week at the beach!

It is not only our guests who enjoy these sugar white sand beaches so do the many nesting sea turtles that lay their eggs on South Walton and Destin, Fla. beaches each year. Every single species of sea turtle is either endangered or threatened so it's important that we help protect them as they come on shore. We encourage guests to fill in any holes you dig and remove all tents, chairs, umbrellas and trash from the beach each night to ensure momma sea turtle can access the dunes safely. If you find a nest the next morning, look but don't touch. Ensuring the eggs reach maturity and hatch is the first step in improving the sea turtle population.

The Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge, the Gulfarium and local sea turtle watch groups provide critical support in protecting these endangered and threatened animals. Recently, marine biologists at the Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park rescued and rehabilitated three baby Loggerhead sea turtles and released them back into the wild.  Check out the story and video captured by the Northwest Florida Daily News.

Welcome and we hope you get to see some turtle tracks while you're enjoying your South Walton or Destin vacation rental!
